The WOTSO co-working space in Hobart is a four-storey office building tenanted by sole traders and small businesses. Equipped with communal kitchens on two of its four floors, WOTSO space leader Jacinta Carmichael saw this as an opportunity to raise funds for local charity organisations.
“It was really easy to implement container donation points in our kitchens,” Jacinta says. “We just added an extra bin to our bin banks.”
Education required the most consideration. “Clearly labelling the bins for eligible containers only was important to us because we didn’t want to create any extra work for anyone,” Jacinta explains. “No one should have to dig through rubbish to retrieve recyclables for refunds.”
“Recycle Rewards also has a stack of handy resources available on their online portal, Brand Folder. There’s eligibility posters and stickers, and social media tiles too so that you can promote your initiative to drive more donations.
“The fundraising guide also helpfully explained the things you need to organise before you get underway collecting eligible drink containers. Like having somewhere to store your collected containers and nominating someone to empty the bin and take the containers to the refund point.”
