In July 2025, Statewide Independent Wholesalers (SIW) signed up for Launceston City’s Mission’s Recycle Rewards container collection service.
SIW is Tasmania’s largest distributor of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG), providing wholesale grocery and liquor lines to Woolworths, BWS, Dan Murphy’s and more than 170 IGAs and independent grocers around Tasmania.
SIW rep Anita Bird said signing up was easy. “Launceston City Mission staff were very responsive and helpful and made the implementation process very straight forward.”
Launceston City Mission supplied SIW with 4x 240L bins for eligible containers, which they collect and replace every 3 weeks. It is a welcome addition to the waste options for SIW’s 450+ staff who work at the 60,000m2 Distribution Centre at Western Junction. “All we had to do was add an extra bin to our bin banks. Now we have eligible container bins in addition to the ones for landfill and co-mingled recycling,” Anita says. “We’re really happy with the service. We donate all of the refunds to Launceston City Mission, which goes back into our local community. After each collection Launceston City Mission provides a report that details how our donations are helping those in need in our community.”
