Recycle Rewards has marked a major milestone in its community impact journey, presenting RSPCA Tasmania with a cheque for $15,643 following its time as the container refund scheme’s major donation partner.

Since Recycle Rewards launched on 1 May, thousands of Tasmanians have been choosing to turn their container refunds into donations that directly benefit local causes. During the five months RSPCA Tasmania was featured on Recycle Rewards’ state-of-the-art reverse vending machines, the animal welfare charity raised more than $15,643 through the generosity of Tasmanians donating the refunds from more than 150,000 eligible drink containers.

To date, Tasmanians have donated $232,000 to more than 620 charities and community groups through the scheme, from animal welfare and youth services to sport clubs, environmental groups, and local schools.

Minister for Environment, Madeleine Ogilvie, said the success of the campaign demonstrated the power of everyday actions:

“Recycle Rewards is delivering real environmental and community benefits for Tasmania. Every container returned means less litter, more recycling and more funding flowing directly to the organisations that support our communities”

RSPCA Tasmania CEO Andrea Dawkins said: “To see $15,643 raised through Recycle Rewards is truly inspiring and shows the power of small everyday actions coming together to make a real difference for animals in need.”

With 49 convenient refund points across the state, including on King and Flinders Islands, everyone can keep turning their 10c container refunds into donations that make a real difference for the community.
