Recycle Rewards is making recycling even easier this summer with the opening of additional refund points and extended opening hours in tourist hotspots.

New temporary refund points are now open in Bicheno, St Marys, Copping and Triabunna on the state’s east coast as well as at Moina near Cradle Mountain. Operating throughout the peak holiday season, the sites will give locals, holidaymakers and visitors a convenient way to return eligible drink containers and
collect their 10 cent refunds.

Tasmania’s east coast sees one of the biggest seasonal population increases in the state, with thousands of visitors arriving to enjoy beaches, national parks and local events. The seasonal refund points have been established to support this surge, reduce litter, and boost recycling across the region.

Opening hours have also been extended at historic Richmond (now open 7am-8pm daily) and Dover in the state’s far south (now open Tuesdays & Thursdays 9am-5:30pm and Saturdays 10am-5:30pm) to provide more time opportunities for locals, businesses and visitors to return eligible drink containers.

TasRecycle CEO Ken Roughley said it was terrific to see extended opening hours at community-operated refund points at Richmond and Dover. “It shows how the community is coming together to make recycling and fundraising easier for locals and visitors alike.”

Tasmanians have returned more than 78 million eligible drink containers since Recycle Rewards launched on 1 May 2025. Of those, 38 million have been in the south, 23 million in the north and 17 million in the northwest.
